Did you ever want to read a specific book, only to find it not available in your library? And when you tried to order it online, you were informed that the post office was on strike? And then when you tried to read it on your phone or tablet, you realized it’s a real strain on your eyes?
Did that ever happen to you? – If the answers is yes, I've got the solution for you: e-readers!!!!!

E-reader is an electronic reading device. What differs it from devices like a tablet / phone, which can also be used to read electronic books, is that an e-reader is a device optimized for reading. E-readers are typically very light, have a long lasting battery, optimized for reading in direct sunlight. E-readers simulated a paper reading experience, by E-ink technology.

The Kobo Aura One device is an e-reader by Rakuten, released in September 2016. It has a 7.8 inch screen (in comparison- the Kindle is only 6 inch) and weighs about 250 grams. The device uses E-ink Carta, has a Wi-Fi connection, is waterproof (for those who like to read in the tub or on the beach). It also boasts a touchscreen display and a built-in light, so it can be read in complete darkness.

My pros and cons to the kobo aura one device:
You can read whatever book you like, whenever you want to. There's no need to go to the library, or order online (and wait and wait and wait for it to arrive). Also some books today don't even have a paper version.
Compared to your tablet or other LCD screens, it won't strain your eyes and tire you. And the night reading mode has varying degrees of brightness.

But---
Since it's an electronic device, it can't be used on Shabbat, which is the most optimal time to read (Imo).
Another thing is the screen size, although it is bigger than all amazon- kindle devices (approx. 6 inch) it is still smaller than most paperback books.
Compared to paper books, E-reader are more expensive. And reading an E-book can sometimes be less enjoyable than reading an actual paper books (at least for me).

Bottom line: if you are an avid reader and don’t mind reading in a digital format, you might benefit from an E-reader. Whether or not this particular model is for you- that's for you to decide.

  1. Mmm...Interesting! I think I might need one...I actually love real books but with today's technology its so much easier and effective and you don't need a library for that,I don't have too much space anyway!
How is it different from a tablet though?
how much and where can you buy it from?
